i matter too.

Was inspired by something from Pinterest (yet again!) where I saw a journal page with a photo and I got the idea to do one for one of my original poems.

This is the finished piece with a picture of little me, age 1 (however, I blurred out to be private, although that sadly could fit the theme! Ugh.)

Layers upon layers which I will break down below:

This is a before in which I decided to add "i" and "too" to the top lettering under the asemic writing.

I started with this line (pp metallic ink) which you can see runs through the center of the poem. This represents me in my middle years, wanting to be heard, wanting to be "seen", acknowledged, etc.

I then lettered in uncial near the top. This will represent my younger years.
*I later added another "i" and "too" across (see above)

I lettered my poem over (in "asemic" writing / illegible script) which hides the words underneath to signify that I was silenced/ignored/shutdown, etc. etc. (this makes sense too if you were to read my poem)

The end line is, "...she did in fact, matter too."

For the final touches, I added my 1 year old pic and "i matter too" (in pp) on velum as an overlay. I hate that you can't read it that well over the poem, so I went over in black ink too.

At the bottom I added these words again in black ink and outlined with a galaxy gel pen. This signifies me coming to terms with all that.

I added here too (again with the gel pen.) and although it looks like Mater I wasn't thinking and accidentally did a ligature, so i plan to fix.

I also added here at the top (with a white galaxy gel pen)

And lastly, I added another line to cross with the hidden one at the top (signifying me trying to speak out/ speak up)
