"Crazy" 2020 lettering.

for Flash Back Friday:  As we prepare to welcome another new year, thought I'd post this one, as I find it a bit "funny" that I chose the lettering for 2020. (Crazy, just like that year!)

I think I was trying to make it "fun", but how ironic it ended up looking bizarre.

You Better Not Pout!

Still trying to figure out a good layout for this, as I did it last year as well.

Ignore my touch ups, as the darn ink splattered, and not in a good way.

Abstract Designs

Had so much fun with these for Cmas. Could be used for B-day designs too (as well as New Year's -- see below).

2 Env.'s & a gift tag.

Insert for Janet. Hate how I messed up my lettering.

Before pic of env.

Final. Sorry it's blurry (didn't realize til after I sent it). I also messed up the design, but no time to redo.

Close up of env.

Another close up.

To Maggie. (Need to find and upload final)

Insert. Loved how my lettering turned out!

Oh What Fun! (demo video)

Decided to do a demo video for this piece as well. (*It's also on my YouTube Channel:  https://www.youtube.com/user/1FabMum/videos )

With added colorful dots.

Alpha Trees

Experimenting with more alpha trees!

This is a take off from an alpha found on Pinterest.

Trial piece, just for fun.

For this one, I used a chisel nib callig marker and tried an altered Neuland.

Greetings!

 And another demo video!

I love using the Crayola gel markers (when they work!) for folded pen lettering, but not too good for making videos, since they don't show up right away. Maybe if I did it more close up.

Then I made it into a card:

Older one with folded pen and india ink (and a filter).

Tried redoing this one (ick!)

One from last year with metallic ink:

Christmas Redo

Another redo for my 100 Day Challenge. Original piece by Louis Lemoine. (Love his folded pen work.)

My initial pieces (below) weren't turning out to my liking, so I redid on blue (like Louis'!) and I love it! (except for my last s) -- New slant tip Parallel pen.

Couldn't figure out what I didn't like at first, then it hit me - the C. Also, the m and a.

Original (in red). Filter made it a fun pink color.

More trees (with various pen tools)

Another demo video. Although not a folded pen, am still sharing, since it's Cmas time!

Trees made with my Pilot Parallel pen. Hold upright and move back and forth down the paper, again, making longer strokes. You could probably get the same effect using any type of chisel nib, but the Parallel pen has continuous ink flow (b/c of the cartridge).

Others:

With colorful dots, Gold & Silver, then just Red.

These are 3 I did this summer for my "12 Days of Cmas in July" on IG:

Again, used Pilot Parallel Pen. Big one on Left was done with broad edge of pen, then added accidental accents, as the ink in the cartridge bleeds b/c it's not waterproof.  😕  Top Right one was done with the end straight up & down and at an angle, back and forth strokes, and Bottom Right was various swoosh marks.

Here is yet another using this pen. All I did for this one was to make a straight line, then with a fine tip brush, use the ink (since it's non-waterproof) to make the tree branches.

With a chisel nib and india ink:

Did this last year with my Hiro Poster nib.

Decorated. Again, wish I had scanned in first!

Let it Snow (Snowflake Redo)

3 years ago when I first saw the beautiful snowflake (below) by PenStrokeDesignStudio (on IG), I saved it, hoping to one day emulate. Well, this year seemed like the perfect time in conjunction with my 100 Days of Redos!

I tried incorporating within the word as an "o", but the arrow parts are too long. Still I like it, as it was a bit time-consuming. It was also part of a Lettering Challenge by 43_type on IG.

Then, I tried adding more circle effects around it to make it look more like an o, but I should have left alone.

Folded pen trees (demo video)

Back in July, when I did my Paper & Ink Arts takeover on IG, I was asked to do a demo video for my abstract Cmas tree done with my Ruling Writer ( https://foldedpenfan.blogspot.com/2021/11/another-cmas-tree.html )

So, I made this video, using my Horizon folded pen instead (from P&I):

Fill with ink, and just move the pen back and forth, making longer strokes, as you go down the page.

Although a different tool, you still get the same effect. And as always, the rougher the paper, the more splatters.
(Dr. Martin's Bombay India ink)

Did this tree last year with same supplies. Wish I had taken a before pic and scanned in.

Similar tree but with watercolor ink. (made as a Cmas Thank You. Name on env. done using Crayola marker)

Here is an updated one I made this year, using my RW. Used this as an insert for env. below:

And here is one using metallic ink. (made a few years ago, but then finished last year and made into a card)

And, just for fun, here are a few new abstract trees, done with brush markers. Same idea, just different tools and results:
old Zig/Marvy brush marker for an env.

Card & env. set with same marker as above. (Best to use a marker for this watercolor paper set anyway, as whenever I try using ink of any kind, it bleeds/feathers. Strathmore wc card & env. set from Dick Blick)

Zig Fudebiyori metallic brush marker on black env. (Name was done with a Crayola gel maker)

Close up.

Same metallic maker, just diff. paper. Funny how it shows up differently/more vibrant on diff. paper! (Handmade gift tag. I slacked on the lettering -- blech!) -- when will I learn to slow down??!!??

Cannot remember what marker I used for this (and I just created it!)
I tried using a Crayola gel maker for her name, but the white didn't show up, so I had to go over it with another.

Test pieces:
Zig Metallic brush marker. Love it, but as you can see, done on scratch paper.

Another brush marker on scrap paper.

Another marker tree (Crayola gel). Done Summer 2021 for my IG "12 Days of Cmas in July".

OLD tree (from early 2000's!) done with Crayola maker. (3d puff paint for red dots)

And lastly, One done this summer using a Wink of Stella brush glitter pen.
