36 Days of Type (2024)

Since I skipped the 100 Day Project this year, i decided to partake in the 36 Days of Type! (on IG) -- which ends today for me (as I'm not doing numbers).

I've done my own alpha challenges before, but they never coincided with this particular challenge. But this time, I was prepared.

Instead of a particular hand, I decided to do a combo instead:  Making letters from other letters. As you can see below, I would use different hands to form each letter.

A bit challenging, but also fun.

I need to find a better grid. But here they all are!
I decided to do each in a diff. color, then convert to black and white.

BW grid

I usually post faves, but I must say, i was pretty proud of each, as it was a definite challenge! However, I am partial to the A, E, G, K, L and Z.

And, of course, there are a few I'd like to redo. (Maybe next year!)

Pens Alphabet (2020)

This piece came about from an IG lettering challenge: Happiness is a New Pen.
I redid the lettering for it (below), and did the word pen from some new pens I had gotten that year (a new Pilot Parallel and ruling pens).

I then decided to make a whole alphabet that way, and actually uploaded all my pics to create a poster (that currently hangs in my art room!)

Wish the dot on my i was a better splatter.

brush and folded pen lettering.

L to R, Top to B:
P:  RW, automatic split pen, ruling pen, Stimudent homemade tool
E: Horizon nib, new Parallel pen (6mm), ruling pen, split nib Coit
N: Pentel pointed brush, mini italic nib, homemade folded pen

Another quote for my healing journal....

Decided to do the word border within the piece this time.

Grrrr.... spacing go a little off with my pp lettering.

Be the Love...

Saw this quote recently, and Loved it! (no pun! 😃)

"Be the Love you never received."
This is with a filter, and you can't see the "Be the" very well.

Here you can. (original pic)

Lighter lighting.

Close up of rest of quote (hard to see in other pics).
Pointed pen.

And original sketch.

Windy (Lettering Prompt, IG)

We'll call this one a little happy accident (or unexpected lettering?) It's from a 2021 IG lettering prompt. Used my Pentel pointed brush, and it accidentally smeared, but I like the effect, as it gives that "windy" effect (or seems like it to me!)

Word "borders"

Inspired by pieces seen online/IG, Julie W's classes, etc., I've really been into word borders and quotes for my healing journal, as well as other pieces I create for snail mail.

Here are some sketches of ideas I cannot wait to create, as well as some in the works!

"What you Resists, Persists." Mini sketch.

And here it is in my journal. Didn't turn out, but am doing my best to work with it.

Idea for a Zen quote.

I like this version better.

And here is my attempt. I used a pointed pen and metallic acrylic ink, as I wasn't trusting how well I could duplicate with my fp. I really like it, but unfortunately, I messed up the final piece.

Perspective.

be mindful (left) and enlightenment (right)

And a few "Serendipity's"

Could probably do one with Creativity as well.

And here is a piece called Resilience. I used 3d puff paint, but messed up the quote spacing. Grrr.
