B...Brush (ABCs...)

 B for Brush!

Pointed brush. (a tool I struggle with)

ABCs of Lettering...A

I decided to start another alphabet challenge, as I've always wanted to do this one.

So, for the month of June, I'm doing the ABCs of Lettering with lettering/calligraphy/typography terms.

(Getting a late start posting, but am now playing catch-up!)

3d heart ("redo" of quote)

I originally did this piece for an exchanger in Feb:

I loved it, except the lettering got squished at the end. So, I redid for my art healing journal.

*Actually, I originally tried doing this smaller with an experimental piece from my akim class (earlier this year). 3D border. Pointed pen.

I like it except for the top of the border (looks like abstract lettering), and the ink I used -- not as crisp for my pp lettering.

Grid Alpha (Dancing Caps)

Another alphabet!

Did this July of 2020 for an IG alpha challenge.

Dancing Caps/Versals and grid rubbing

Wish I had done more background colors, but I still like! (except the L -- would redo that....and the C)

Close-ups of some faves:

I always thought this looked a bit like a fish.

I really loved this when I first created.

Love the splatters.

Just Be. (watercolor)

Failed watercolor piece I converted into an insert.

i've been converting a lot of pieces lately....taking former lettering challenges and making quotes, and/or taking failed pieces and turning them into inserts (or collages).

Not real happy with the lettering, but I didn't want to take away from the design. Not bad. (could also use as a postcard)

Feelin' Groovy.

I love Simon and Garfunkel. And I've really been into my "border words" layout. So, one day while in my art room, listening to my awesome music, this song comes on, and I couldn't wait to letter!

I loved how the border turned out, and was so afraid to add the lettering for fear of messing it up. Decided on foundational, and it didn't turn out too bad! (my only struggle is slowing down)

Side view of border words.

A sketch I wanted to turn into an insert, but wasn't liking, as there were extra marks. Plus, I think the v should be connecting to the y vs. extending. And maybe a contrast color to the bottom lines (and I got the words wrong anyway!)
Can't wait to redo!

"Word" redo, Redo: final

(*See yesterday's post for explanation: )

Redid for my healing journal and posting final / better version:

I came up with the saying after "BUT..."! (b/c it's TRUE!)
Was unsure what color combo to use, so I went with earth tones b/c of "sticks & stones". 😏
(I like it much better than the blue & brown. No idea why i chose those colors!)

folded pen (Horizon?) and pointed pen with gold & India inks.

first attempt. So bummed it didn't turn out, as I would have used for an insert.
