All these creations were made with the Ruling Writer.

Hello all! I'm so excited to be able to finally share... Check out @paperandinkarts this week, as my work will be featured!!! Back in May, I was chosen for their "Instagram Takeover Week", and my first post is up today!

I'll be mostly talking about folded pens, and today's post on their IG page (see story video) is a demo of the Ruling Writer (product link: https://www.paperinkarts.com/rulwrt.html ). This tool is what first got me into the wonderful world of folded pens. Been using it for decades -- So fun and versatile.

Shown here are a few of my samples. Swipe to see a different demo video (the one on the P&I page shows the drop-in color technique.)

*I'll be adding Stories all week with info about each product, then Highlighting at the end.

Thanks again @paperandinkarts and Sarah for selecting me! 😊 #instagramtakeover

Post 1 (P&I Takeover Week)

* For all my posts (8 total), I will be doing 2 separate ones for some, as what I showed on my IG page differed slightly some days than what I had P&I post.

This was Day 1:

Hello! I’m Leslie -- @olovey1 -- and I’m thrilled and honored to be taking over the Paper & Ink Arts Instagram feed for the week. I will be mainly demonstrating folded pens and various products I own that Paper & Ink carries. I hope you enjoy my posts! (Be sure to check out my page as well, as I'll be showing other photos and product info.)
.
Today’s video is featuring the Ruling Writer and walnut ink with drop-in colors (all of which can be purchased at Paper & Ink). For the drop-in colors, make sure you place the ink on a wet spot, so it soaks in and spreads. Just dab it on. If you do not have an ink dropper, you can use a small pointed paint brush. I also use a Q-tip to pick up any excess.
.
Although the paper I used didn't create any, don’t worry about splatters from the Ruling Writer, as it’s meant to do that. This makes for a fun effect with your lettering. The rougher the paper, the more splatter you’ll get. The Ruling Writer is such a fun tool, as it’s very versatile. To get thinner lines, hold it more upright; For broad strokes, at an angle. Swipe to see video.

IG Takeover (for P&I)

Back in May, i was selected for Paper & Ink Arts Instagram Takeover Week. I submitted some of my creations and explained what all I would showcase, if I were chosen.

I was slotted for the week of July 26. Below are just a few of the items I submitted, and the posts to follow are what I created for my week (focusing mainly on folded pens!)

Watercolor, Gouache and Inks. 2019

April, 2020. Did a series of Gratitude pieces.
Watercolor, folded pen and black ink.

This is from one of 10 quotes I did earlier in the year (2021) for the 100 Day Project (did 10 quotes lettered 9 diff. ways).
Ruling Writer and pointed pen.

Cmas Trees -- Left: folded pen; Right: Hiro poster nib
Used green India ink for both

Although not your typical folded pen, I was so proud of how these letters all turned out, esp. the D & F.
Walnut ink & drop-in colors. Coit pen and Speedball C nib.

Paper & Ink Arts Blog!!

So, I came upon this by accident (although I kinda knew already) -- I am featured on the P&I Blog (Under "Calligrapher's Corner")!

https://www.paperinkartsblog.com/category/calligraphers-corner/

How I found out (officially) was through their promotional emails. Back in May (2021), I was chosen for their IG Takeover Week and all my work I submitted was featured the week of July 26 (will make separate post for that).

At the time, I knew I'd be featured on their blog as well, but I kinda forgot so it was a nice surprise when I opened their promo email on Aug. 12, and saw a lot of my posts featured!

Although I never submitted this, it's on my IG page, so Sarah must've grabbed it to use.

So fun to keep scrolling to see another one, and another one!

If you view their blog, it's so nice & lovely how they presented all my work. The layout is great and I just hope it stays up there for a while! (Happy me! So honored!)  😊

Here is the full article for moi!  😁

Folded Pen Fridays (Updating blog)

I'm not sure where I first saw this term (IG maybe? or another blog?) but I use it constantly on IG. Every Friday I try to post something related to folded pens, and after my IG P&I Takeover Week, I decided to maybe try to do that here as well, to keep this blog more updated (depending on who all views it).

So, I may be backtracking a bit at first, posting older pieces mixed in with newer ones. I'm not sure yet, as this blog is such a work-in-progress.

I'd love to get more viewers, just so i don't feel like I'm wasting my time. SO, if you'd like to be an avid follower, please click the "Follow" button! That way, I can see if there are others who are interested.

Thanks and happy lettering!

Cmas in July

I decided to do a 12 Days of Cmas in July this year. Started on the 13th and ended on the 25th.

Used my new slant tip Parallel Pen! (https://foldedpenfan.blogspot.com/2021/07/new-pen.html)

Love how my "Cmas" turned out, but not the rest (wish I had done "July" in green and no outline).

This is a piece I did for my P&I Takeover Week on IG. It's also posted on my Exemplars page.

Walnut ink and ruling pen.
