More Erasure Poem Art

I love my first one with this poem ( https://foldedpenfan.blogspot.com/2025/08/erasure-poetry.html )   , but decided to try with watercolor too.

Handmade Booklet (Courage, Strength, Bravery)

 

Originally, this was to be a card of encouragement (you can see "you got this" lettered under the black; scroll for close ups), but I didn't like how it turned out. So, i covered with my Sumi ink (gold sheen) and added more lettering and a strip, and made into a little booklet (about 4 x 5).

Lettered the word, "Strength" with my new ruling pen, then added some quotes in-between letters.

This is a bit of a mess. Was trying a layout and didn't turn out.

Maybe it can represent fear?

"Erasure" Poetry

As posted earlier ( https://foldedpenfan.blogspot.com/2025/08/blackout-poetry.html ), I signed up for a Snail Mail exchange this month and the theme was Black Out Poetry.

Beings I wanted to keep my original creations, I decided to make Erasure Poetry with the poems, and I had so much fun! (especially the top one) Can't wait to make more.

In going through my papers, I came upon a picture that was included with a frame I bought. I have no idea why I kept it, and at first i thought, "Why am I keeping this??" But then, I found it lovely, and decided to write some lettering to put over it.

I wasn't sure what to write (something about Paris? Nah... to trite), and then I decided to focus on the red umbrella. And to my surprise, a lovely poem emerged. This is only part of it.

"It's raining, it's peaceful. I want to venture out, to use my red umbrella."

There are so many directions I could go with this (a short story perhaps?), but for now, I'll keep it to my poem.

Blackout Poetry

This month, I'm partaking in another round of the SMC Hello Stranger exchange, and the theme is Black Out Poetry.

I'd vaguely heard of of this, and have seen some of it here and there, but when I read more, I couldn't wait to try. However, 1) we don't have any newspapers, and 2) i'm not one to mar books (well, except for one once, that I was irritated with). BUT then I remembered a book I won from Goodreads, and ended up hating it, and for some reason I had kept it, SO, I found it perfect to use for my new creative endeavor!

I loved how this poem came together, as the book itself is about someone with a warped mind! 😆 (But, that wasn't my inspo for the poem.)

First one I actually blacked out (3rd one I created). Decided to use green b/c of the word, "poison. I could do more with it, but I also kinda like as is. I also love that you can read the first few words a few different ways:

Paranoia I know

My brain is working, Always worry;

Troubled by my head.

Poison I hear again.

But you can also read it this way:

I know paranoia.

Is my brain working?

Always worry, Troubled by my head.

I hear poison again  

I like my first version better.  😊

2nd one I blacked out:

Laugh and say, little poet, why don’t you have a book already?

I wanted to use primary colors, and found this poem perfect for that.

Finished version (I think) -- I may add more.

And for now, my very first black out poem! 

I'm so glad I thought to do a heart, as it also adds some good balance (but it was hard to cover up the words -- and I even used a perm. marker). I also used my black sumi ink with gold and love the sheen, as well as a glitter gel pen to outline the words.

I think this is the finished version, but I may add more, the more inspired and creative I get!  😉

I absolutely LOVE this!! I was so proud of myself (and I feel another original poem coming on!)

accidental play

Another failed lettering piece, and beings it was done in walnut ink, I decided to smear the words, and add more lettering on top, using various pens and styles.

I tried to create that "Laurie Doctor" feel with her "columnal" practice pages

I know it looks like a garbled mess, but I think it's fun.

i have a black photo album journal, and not knowing what to put in it, I decided to start collaging. The paper is nice enough to letter on, and since I have SO many scrap papers, thought it perfect.

This design is themed, Kindness. I'm not digging the Right part, but not bad since I'm just starting out!

This was a failed lettering piece (from years ago), so I tried salvaging by smearing the inks, also adding some black Sumi (over white crayon), but it wasn't working out. I then added some metallic teal accents, and got the idea to make a collage, and letter TPWK in between.

Torn pieces. I decided to only use 3 of them b/c they all wouldn't fit. 

(Will try to update with the leftover 2, as not sure what i'll do with them yet -- maybe another envie?)

I lettered some of the lyrics of TPWK in white Glaze gel pen (connected caps) and pasted the torn failed pieces over.

Then, on the Right, I lettered, "be kind" big with my white Wink of Stella pointed brush, and went over it with weaver writing in pp and black metallic ink. The lettering is a poem about kindness I found online (but I wish I had used my own words).

I then used a teal Posca to go over the white, to add more color in hopes of tying in to the torn pieces.

Had such fun with this! SO many ideas for this technique.. .can't wait to create more.
