Word Redos

Remember my "Word" Challenge from the fall of 2019? --
( https://foldedpenfan.blogspot.com/search?q=word )  Well, I'm taking a few of those pieces and converting them into inserts, etc. for mailings / my art healing journal.

Here are a few "nearly there's"... 😉

Finished piece (postcard size).  I added a quote and the word "matters", as well as adding on an "s" at the end of Word.

the Quote.

The S should be a tad thicker, but I also like how it turned out.

"matter".

Original.

2nd piece:

I really like this one, BUT...my gold lettering at the top got messed up. (Grrrr!!!)

Gold lettering on top & bottom: "one kind...can do wonders".

Original. (Pink "word" in gouache.)

And another:

This was turning out, until my lettering, as I messed up the k in break (or rather, the d*mn ink ran again! It blobbed up on me. 😕)
That's ok, b/c I plan to redo for my art healing journal, and an insert. (Plus, the lettering/ marks to the left were a distraction and I didn't know how to cover up.)

Started out as this. Folded pen, India ink and pastels.

Since I couldn't trim off the "Oh my...", I tried to make into shapes, but it didn't work.

I erased part of the pastels to make a nice clean even border, added "matter" to the end, hoping the swoosh of the d looked like an "s".  Excited to re-create!

Music Nib Alpha

In "honor" of 36 Days of type this year (completed end of April), I'm going to continue to share other alphas I've lettered over the past few years.

The samples below are from 2019.

This one was lettered in 2021.

I'm so glad there is now a 5 split nib automatic pen, as using my music nib was so challenging! The ink would not flow well, and it would be so frustrating. I still don't know how to correct that.

So, before I got the automatic pen, here is an alpha I did with the nib:

And below are extras (flipped letters):

And here are some other lettering samples.

36 Days of Type (2024)

Since I skipped the 100 Day Project this year, i decided to partake in the 36 Days of Type! (on IG) -- which ends today for me (as I'm not doing numbers).

I've done my own alpha challenges before, but they never coincided with this particular challenge. But this time, I was prepared.

Instead of a particular hand, I decided to do a combo instead:  Making letters from other letters. As you can see below, I would use different hands to form each letter.

A bit challenging, but also fun.

I need to find a better grid. But here they all are!
I decided to do each in a diff. color, then convert to black and white.

BW grid

I usually post faves, but I must say, i was pretty proud of each, as it was a definite challenge! However, I am partial to the A, E, G, K, L and Z.

And, of course, there are a few I'd like to redo. (Maybe next year!)

Pens Alphabet (2020)

This piece came about from an IG lettering challenge: Happiness is a New Pen.
I redid the lettering for it (below), and did the word pen from some new pens I had gotten that year (a new Pilot Parallel and ruling pens).

I then decided to make a whole alphabet that way, and actually uploaded all my pics to create a poster (that currently hangs in my art room!)

Wish the dot on my i was a better splatter.

brush and folded pen lettering.

L to R, Top to B:
P:  RW, automatic split pen, ruling pen, Stimudent homemade tool
E: Horizon nib, new Parallel pen (6mm), ruling pen, split nib Coit
N: Pentel pointed brush, mini italic nib, homemade folded pen

Resilient

Another quote for my healing journal....

Decided to do the word border within the piece this time.

Grrrr.... spacing go a little off with my pp lettering.
